Beijing collector Li Guoqing, whose given name means “National Day” in Chinese, uses his stamp collection and dedicated website to promote China's history and culture.

As the country marks the 77th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China, Li presented stamps linked to major historical events, cultural symbols and national commemorations.

His collection includes the first set of PRC stamps issued on October 8, 1949, a stamp featuring China's first domestically made Jiefang truck, a miniature sheet honoring Peking Opera master Mei Lanfang, and the famous 1980 Monkey stamp, China's first zodiac issue.

The collection also includes stamps inspired by classical Chinese literature, as well as commemorative sheets marking the 50th, 60th and 70th anniversaries of the founding of the PRC.

Li says stamps document their era, carry cultural meaning and serve as a kind of national calling card.

Through his platform e1988.com and livestreams, he introduces philately to a wider audience. Some broadcasts attract more than 2,000 viewers, including interest from overseas users.

According to CCTV+, Li Guoqing sees stamps not only as collectibles, but also as a way to introduce people to China's history, culture and national identity through visual symbols.
