China-Indonesia cooperation delivers results across infrastructure, industry and education

Thirteen years after the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road initiative was proposed, cooperation between China and Indonesia has expanded from major infrastructure projects to industry, education and cultural exchange.
One of the most prominent projects is the Jakarta-Bandung High-Speed Railway, which has cut travel time between the two cities from around four hours to just over 40 minutes. Since commercial operations began in October 2023, the line has carried more than 18 million passenger trips.
Industrial development has also grown along the route. Wuling Motors Indonesia has shifted from exporting finished vehicles to transferring technology, production standards and supply-chain expertise, while local workers receive training in automation, robotics and advanced manufacturing.
Cooperation is also expanding in finance, with Indonesian travelers now able to use familiar mobile applications and QR codes for payments in China.
Education programs such as the Luban Workshop are providing young Indonesians with practical skills in industrial equipment, programmable logic controllers and computer-aided design.
Cultural exchanges are also becoming more visible, including the release of Chinese films in Indonesia such as “Dear You,” which explores migration, memory and the experiences of the Chinese diaspora.
According to CCTV+, China-Indonesia cooperation is increasingly connecting multiple sectors, from transport and manufacturing to education, technology and culture.
