Passenger flows across China's transport networks remained high on the fourth day of the seven-day National Day holiday, with strong growth in short- and medium-distance rail travel and inter-provincial road trips.

China's railway system is expected to handle about 20.35 million passenger trips on Sunday, up 11 percent from the same day in 2025. A total of 935 additional trains have been scheduled to meet demand.

Tourist service centers at railway stations are providing ticketing, guidance and shuttle services. Operators are also increasing train capacity, adding extra services and scheduling overnight high-speed trains.

Inter-provincial road travel and new-energy vehicle traffic are also rising. Congestion risks remain elevated on several expressway sections in Jiangsu, Sichuan, Guangdong, Hunan and Zhejiang provinces.

Waterway passenger volume is expected to exceed 1.95 million trips on Sunday, with island tours, urban sightseeing cruises and cruise travel continuing to see strong demand.

According to CCTV+, transport authorities are using additional services, smart vessel monitoring and traffic-management measures to handle the holiday travel surge and maintain safety.
