China has purchased over 100 million tonnes of wheat and is preparing for autumn purchases of 350 million tonnes

According to the National Food and Strategic Reserves Administration, China is fully prepared for the upcoming autumn grain purchase as the summer purchase draws to a close. So far, the country's total wheat purchases have exceeded 100 million tonnes. To protect the interests of grain farmers, the government promptly activated the minimum purchase price programme for wheat. Sinograin has opened 164 purchasing points in the two main producing provinces – Henan and Anhui – offering to buy wheat at policy-supported prices without any volume restrictions. "Today my grain payment was transferred quickly, and now I feel much more at ease since the minimum purchase price policy has taken effect," said local farmer Hou Erwei.
As the autumn grain crop gradually matures across the country, the autumn grain purchasing season begins, expected to last from late September to late April next year. The autumn season accounts for approximately three-quarters of the country's total annual grain purchases, making it the most significant period for grain purchasing and storage of the year. This year, the subsidy programme includes grain dryers and intelligent grain processing equipment, helping to ensure smooth purchase, storage and transportation of the autumn harvest.
"Currently, grain storage facilities, purchasing funds, personnel, equipment and other resources are in place. Grain purchases during this year's peak autumn harvest season are expected to reach about 350 million tonnes. We will strengthen market monitoring and information dissemination, and effectively use drying and other services provided by post-harvest grain service centres to help farmers reduce losses and increase their incomes," said Luo Shouquan, director of the Grain Reserves Department of the National Food and Strategic Reserves Administration.
