Turkmenistan introduces new digital technologies to the sphere of medical services

Altyn Asyr cellular operator and the Ministry of Health Protection and Medical Industry of Turkmenistan will jointly launch a SMS-notification service that will notify subscribers about the need of timely medical check ups and other health-related notifications. Information about this was voiced at the government session on May 25. The service is introduced in accordance with the recommendations of the World Health Organization (WHO). As indicated in the global survey on eHealth conducted by the WHO Global Observatory for eHealth, the use of eHealth in support of universal health coverage can change the principle of medical care on a global scale. eHealth plays a vital role in promoting universal health coverage. For instance, it helps provide services to remote populations and underserved communities through telehealth or mHealth as well as receive objective health information and consult specialists distantly. In addition, the UN included mHealth as a key innovation to achieve the goals outlined in the new Global Strategy for Women’s and Children’s Health.
