Uzbek ceramic tableware, Turkmen traditional clothing, embroidery by Indian craftsmen and many other beautiful and interesting things were presented at the fair of crafts in Bishkek. The XVII International Festival of Traditional Culture and Crafts "Oimo-2023" opened in the Kyrgyz capital on Thursday, AKIpress reports.
Masters from Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Turkey, Azerbaijan, Afghanistan, India, China, Russia, Iran, the USA and Mexico come to Bishkek for the creative action every year. The fair is also attended by citizens and foreign guests, artisans, designers, cultural and art figures, representatives of creative industries.
The name of the festival "Oimo" is translated from Kyrgyz as "national ornament". The goal is to popularize folk crafts and traditions of different countries, as well as to preserve the cultural heritage of peoples and revive the continuity of traditional knowledge. The Bishkek festival site stimulates the development of the craft market and creative industries based on cultural heritage, and also turns Kyrgyzstan into an international territory of environmentally friendly cultural tourism, the report says.
"Oimo" is an international festival of culture, which has been held in Kyrgyzstan since 2006. Traditionally, it opens at the end of July with a fair in Bishkek and continues on the shore of Lake Issyk- Kul.
