The newly elected president of Turkmenistan, Serdar Berdimuhamedov, addressed his fellow citizens and briefly spoke about plans for the future at an expanded meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers and the State Security Council held on Tuesday.
Expressing gratitude to all compatriots who took part in the elections and cast their votes for him, Serdar Berdimuhamedov stressed that the country faces great challenges at a new stage of development. They, in turn, are detailed in the national program of social and economic development of Turkmenistan for 30 years ahead.
According to the announced plans, the elected president intends to continue the course of development formed over the years of independence, as well as to carry out the reforms that have begun in politics, the economy, and the socio-cultural sphere.
Serdar Berdimuhamedov promised to use all his strength, knowledge and experience to justify the trust placed in him by the voters. In particular, his work will be aimed at ensuring the happy life of citizens, the tranquility and security of Turkmenistan, and its prosperity.
In the presidential elections held on March 12, 72.97% of voters voted for Serdar Berdimuhamedov. The inauguration of the President-elect is scheduled for Saturday, March 19.
Earlier, the incumbent head of state Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov announced his intention to focus on the post of chairman of the upper chamber of the Turkmen parliament (Halk Maslakhaty of the Milli Gengesh).
