On Thursday, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Rashid Meredov discussed by phone with Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation Sergey Lavrov key issues of Turkmen-Russian cooperation.

On February 22, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov will hold talks with his Turkmen counterpart Rashid Meredov, who will arrive in Russia on a working visit. This was announced by the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova at a briefing on Wednesday.

“We have always believed that the importance of the Southern Gas Corridor lies in the fact that it can be expanded and carry additional gas to Europe. As Europe deals with significant energy price increases, Italy, which imports more than 95% of its energy, sees diversification of gas supplies as a "strategic necessity". In 2021, Turkmenistan produced the largest volume of natural gas in 30 years of independent development - 83 billion 772.9 million cubic meters. President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, during a working video conference on Tuesday, discussed with government members the proposed construction of a processing industrial complex on the Turkmen Afghan border.

Today, Ms. Narine Sahakyan, newly appointed UNDP Resident Representative in Turkmenistan, has presented her credentials to His Excellency Mr. Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, President of Turkmenistan.

Turkmenistan will consider the possibility of transiting its natural gas through neighboring states to the countries of the Middle and Near East. President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov instructed Deputy Prime Minister for Fuel and Energy Complex Shahym Abdrakhmanov to study this issue at a working meeting on Tuesday.

Today, the Agrarian Party of Turkmenistan has decided on its candidacy for the highest state post of the country. At the extraordinary IV party congress, it was decided to nominate the deputy head of the Mary region, Agadzhan Bekmyradov, as a candidate for participation in the presidential elections.
