The world’s first medical laboratory staffed entirely by robots has opened in Japan
The Tokyo Institute of Science has opened the world’s first medical laboratory where all staff members are robots. Machines have now fully taken over complex medical experiments that were previously carried out by humans. At present, 10 automated “employees” are working in the laboratory, including a two-armed humanoid robot named Maholo. Thanks to its highly precise movements, the robot successfully performs delicate tasks: transferring exact doses of hazardous chemical reagents, independently handling fragile temperature-sensitive equipment, and cultivating living cells without any human intervention.
Japanese scientists do not plan to stop there. By 2040, they intend to expand the robotic workforce to 2,000 models. The main goal of the project is to fully automate the entire cycle of medical research. According to experts, this will help solve labor shortages and completely eliminate errors caused by the human factor.
