Exports of electromechanical products up 17.6 percent, electric vehicle shipments up 68.1 percent, private sector accounts for 57.4 percent of total trade Let’s try to find the answer to this question in a CCTV+ report.

According to data released by the General Administration of Customs on Saturday, China’s foreign trade grew by 14.9 percent year on year in the first four months of this year. The total value of goods imports and exports during this period reached 16.23 trillion yuan.

From January to April, exports rose 11.3 percent year on year to 9.33 trillion yuan, while imports increased by 20 percent to 6.9 trillion yuan.

In April alone, China’s foreign trade in yuan terms grew by 14.2 percent year on year, with the total value of goods imports and exports reaching 4.38 trillion yuan. Exports rose 9.8 percent compared to the same period last year to 2.48 trillion yuan, while imports increased by 20.6 percent to 1.9 trillion yuan.

Liu Daliang, Director of the Statistics and Analysis Department of the General Administration of Customs, said: “In April, China’s imports and exports showed double-digit year-on-year growth and an increase of 6.5 percent compared to March. Foreign trade maintains a positive trend this year.”

In the first four months, China’s exports of electromechanical products reached 5.92 trillion yuan, up 17.6 percent year on year, accounting for 63.5 percent of the country’s total exports. Specifically, shipments of green and low-carbon products such as electric vehicles, lithium batteries and wind turbines increased by 68.1 percent, 43.2 percent and 40.7 percent respectively, while exports of industrial robots rose by 30 percent.

Over the same period, China’s private enterprises achieved imports and exports worth 9.31 trillion yuan, an increase of 15.9 percent year on year, accounting for 57.4 percent of the country’s total trade volume.

We don’t know if we got the answer to our question, but one thing we are sure of: behind this is not a trader’s luck, but a far-sighted strategy of an entire system.
