On May 7, the fifth meeting of the Intergovernmental Turkmen-Georgian Commission on Economic Cooperation was held in Ashgabat. The Turkmen delegation was led by Minister of Trade and Foreign Economic Relations Nazar Agakhanov, and the Georgian delegation was led by Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development Mariam Kvrivishvili. Heads of key sectoral ministries and agencies from both countries participated in the commission's work.

During the meeting, participants conducted a comprehensive review of the current state of trade and economic relations and reaffirmed their mutual commitment to further expanding cooperation across a wide range of areas. Particular emphasis was placed on the need to intensify trade and economic cooperation, with transport, energy, and the oil and gas sectors identified as priority areas.

The participants discussed in detail specific mechanisms for increasing mutual trade turnover, stimulating investment activity, and creating the most favorable conditions for direct interaction between the business communities of Turkmenistan and Georgia.

Transport and logistics occupied a strategic place during the discussions. The parties paid special attention to the development of promising international transport corridors, particularly the Caspian Sea – Black Sea and Lapis Lazuli Corridor routes, as well as the efficient use of the transit potential of the two countries' port infrastructure.

Along with the economic agenda, the meeting participants emphasized the importance of simultaneously expanding humanitarian dialogue. They noted the need to strengthen contacts in science, education, tourism, and culture, which contributes to the rapprochement of the peoples of the two countries.

Following the commission's work, the co-chairs signed a final protocol. This document solidified the agreements reached in Ashgabat and outlined specific practical steps for the implementation of promising joint projects aimed at benefiting the peoples of Turkmenistan and Georgia.

During the Georgian delegation's visit to Ashgabat, a number of meetings were also held between the heads of relevant ministries and agencies of the two countries, where sectoral cooperation issues were discussed in detail.
