The newly renovated Turkmen Room was presented at the Palace of Nations in Geneva

GENEVA, October 27, 2026 — The newly renovated Turkmen Room was presented at the Palace of Nations in Geneva as part of the Building C Open House event. The presentation was organized under the United Nations Strategic Heritage Plan (SHP) project. The event was attended by Tatiana Valovaya, Director-General of the United Nations Office at Geneva, diplomats from the Permanent Mission of Turkmenistan, heads and representatives of diplomatic missions accredited to the UN Office and other international organizations in Geneva, as well as international experts.
The Turkmen Room dates back to the original construction of the Palace of Nations in the 1930s, built for the League of Nations. In 2014, the Government of Turkmenistan funded its first major restoration, which included restoring the original furniture, installing modern audiovisual equipment, and displaying traditional handmade Turkmen carpets, which became the centerpiece of the interior.

Under the ongoing SHP project, the Turkmen Room underwent a high-tech modernization while fully preserving its unique historic decor.
Alongside the Turkmen Room, the Council Chamber, the French, Russian, and Czech-Slovak Rooms, as well as the Conference Documentation Center and the art collection of the Palace of Nations, were open to the public.
The Turkmen Room continues to serve as an essential venue for high-level meetings, international negotiations, and mediation. It stands as a vivid symbol of the effective strategic cooperation between Turkmenistan and the United Nations, and the significant contribution of the rich Turkmen culture to the world heritage.
