China will simplify the registration of foreign food producers, with new rules set to take effect on June 1, 2026.
The General Administration of Customs of the People’s Republic of China has revised the registration procedures for foreign enterprises supplying food products to the Chinese market. The updated regulations aim to streamline trade procedures and ensure food safety.
Under the new rules, the operations of around 96,000 already registered companies will not be affected. At the same time, about 95% of enterprises will be able to automatically extend their registration. For the remaining companies, the application period for renewal has been extended to 3–12 months before expiration (previously 3–6 months).
For new participants, documentation requirements have been simplified, and a fast-track registration mechanism based on a list system has been introduced.
The new provisions are set out in Decree No. 280 of the General Administration of Customs of the PRC and accompanying clarification (Announcement No. 27 of 2026).
