Turkish Ultramarathon was recognized as the World’s Best by UN Tourism
The legendary race across Cappadocia — Salomon Cappadocia Ultra-Trail — achieved a major victory at the first international UN Tourism awards held in Madrid. The Turkish project was officially recognized as a benchmark in the “Impact on Local Community” category, outperforming competitors from around the world.
This award, presented with the support of the International Automobile Federation (FIA), confirms that mass sports can bring real benefits to a region without harming the environment. The project has proven its effectiveness in supporting the economic development of Anatolia and preserving cultural heritage.
Running through history and national parks
Each year, the ultramarathon brings together more than 2,000 athletes from all continents. The race route is unique, passing through Göreme National Park and landscapes included in the UNESCO World Heritage List. Participants quite literally travel through time, running past the famous “fairy chimneys” and ancient cave cities.
More than sport: A New image of Türkiye
This UN-level recognition highlights the transformation of the country’s tourism sector. Today, Türkiye is not only about beach holidays but also a global hub for active tourism. Cappadocia offers visitors a unique mix of experiences year-round:
