China's Vice Foreign Minister Ma Zhaoxu urges G20 to strengthen global security
China has called on members of the Group of 20 (G20) to take concrete actions to safeguard global security, stability and development. The call was made by Chinese Vice Foreign Minister Ma Zhaoxu at a meeting of G20 foreign ministers held in Atlanta, the United States, from Friday to Saturday.
Ma said the international situation was undergoing profound changes, geopolitical tensions were mounting, and the development agenda was seriously lagging behind.
He said the G20 should shoulder its due responsibilities and serve as a force for safeguarding world peace and stability. Its members should help ease tensions in regional hotspots, address the root causes of conflicts and strengthen global security governance.
China also supports deeper G20 cooperation on energy security and sustainable development, Ma said. He highlighted the need to continuously improve energy affordability, promote the transformation of the energy structure and improve global energy governance.
He further called on G20 members to take concrete actions to maintain the stability and smooth operation of global industrial and supply chains. During the meeting, Ma elaborated on China's position on the situation in the Middle East and the Ukraine crisis.
Chaired by U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio, the meeting also discussed geopolitical tensions, energy security and supply chains.
The gathering of foreign ministers took place ahead of the G20 Leaders' Summit, scheduled to be held in Miami, Florida, in December.
According to CCTV+, the meeting provided a platform to discuss key international issues and G20 members' approaches to strengthening global security and stability.
