Turkmen students win nearly 200 medals at the OMOUS-2026 Mathematics Olympiad
The VI Open Mathematics Olympiad for university students (OMOUS-2026) has concluded at the International University for the Humanities and Development. One of the largest academic events of the year brought together hundreds of talented young participants in the Turkmen capital, reinforcing Ashgabat’s status as a center of international scientific cooperation.
Starting from March 24, the best young mathematicians competed in solving challenging problems in algebra, analysis, and combinatorics. The program included both individual and team contests in categories A and B. In total, more than 370 awards were distributed based on the evaluation of works by an international jury.
Results and leaders
Turkmen students demonstrated absolute leadership at the Olympiad. In individual competitions, they won 198 medals (33 gold, 69 silver, and 96 bronze). In team contests, Turkmen teams received an additional 13 awards.
Foreign participants also showed a high level of preparation:
• Uzbekistan: students won 103 medals in individual contests and 10 awards in team competitions.
• Russian Federation: participants secured 30 individual medals and 7 team awards.
• Greece, the Netherlands, Germany, and Hungary: students from these countries each won one gold medal in Category B. Greece and the Netherlands also earned silver medals in team contests.
• UAE and Iran: delegations from these countries won bronze medals in individual contests. Iranian students also secured a prize-winning place in the team competition.
Organizers emphasized that OMOUS is not just a competition, but an important step in implementing the national strategy for improving the education system. The Olympiad promotes the integration of Turkmen universities into the global scientific and educational space and helps introduce advanced educational standards.
The closing ceremony concluded with an official awards presentation. Organizers expressed confidence that the professional connections established in Ashgabat during these days will serve as a foundation for new joint discoveries.
