Microsoft focuses its strategy in Central Asia on AI — new Regional head
Microsoft Corporation has officially announced the appointment of Gabriela Popescu as Regional Manager responsible for Romania, Moldova, and the countries of Central Asia. The decision signals the technology giant’s growing focus on the region’s digital market.
Focus on Artificial intelligence and Cloud technologies
Gabriela Popescu, who previously headed Microsoft’s legal department in Central and Eastern Europe, assumes her new role with a clear mandate: to accelerate digital transformation through the adoption of cloud technologies and responsible artificial intelligence (AI).
According to Microsoft, the primary objective of the new leadership will be to help both public and private sectors use AI to enhance their global competitiveness. For Turkmenistan, which is implementing the concept of “smart cities” and digital public services, this opens new opportunities in cybersecurity and data standardization.

“We are on the threshold of a new era in which cloud technologies and AI will become the foundation of economic growth,” Ms. Popescu noted. Microsoft emphasizes that its activities in Central Asia will focus on three key areas:

• Public sector: implementing scalable cloud solutions to increase transparency and efficiency.
• Innovation ecosystems: supporting local startups and IT companies.
