A new record for precipitation duration has been recorded in France. Rains have been continuing in the country for 36 consecutive days, making this the longest period in the entire history of meteorological observations.

According to data from the Météo-France service, the previous record from 2023 has already been surpassed. The situation this February is the most remarkable since 1959. In some regions, three times the normal amount of rain and snow has fallen, leading to a significant rise in water levels in rivers.

Due to the prolonged downpours, the maximum red alert level has been introduced in four departments of the country. This concerns Maine-et-Loire, Charente-Maritime, Gironde, as well as Lot-et-Garonne. Another nine regions are under enhanced surveillance by specialists due to rivers overflowing.

Specialists recommend planning trips across the country taking these weather conditions into account and monitoring updates from the meteorological services.
