Astrakhan steps up trade ties with Turkmenistan


In 2017, export from the Astrakhan Region of the Russian Federation to Turkmenistan grew by 7.4 times as compared with 2016. It was announced by the regional ministry of international and foreign economic relations. According to statistical data, last year the volume of import-export operations of the Astrakhan region exceeded US $ 740 million dollars, or up 40% compared to 2016. The intensification of trade relations with such Caspian states as Turkmenistan, Azerbaijan and Iran is registered. These three countries account for 30% of external commodity turnover. The main articles of the Astrakhan export to the Turkmen market are ferrous metal products, vehicles, glass products, and products of the flour-and-cereals industry. In turn, Turkmenistan exports to the region ready-made textile products, clothes, fruits, nuts. The Astrakhan region is one of the subjects of the Russia with which Turkmenistan has set up direct bilateral relations. The parties maintain regular contacts at the highest level and make efforts to expand economic direction, social and humanitarian cooperation. The school for 240 places, built by the Turkmen builders in the village of Funtovo, Privolzhsky district, is one of the examples of successful cooperation.
