On February16, in Kuwait City, a historic meeting took place: for the first time, an official economic delegation of Turkmenistan visited the Kuwait Chamber of Commerce and Industry. The parties discussed the creation of a direct platform for business and investment in the energy, textile and food sectors.

The visit of Merghen Gurdov, Chairman of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Turkmenistan, marked an important milestone in the diversification of the country’s foreign economic relations. The Kuwaiti side, represented by Deputy Director General Firas Al-Ouda, highlighted Turkmenistan’s strategic importance as a partner with a unique geographical position and strong resource potential, according to the KUNA news agency.

Kuwait — one of the world’s highest-income countries — is actively seeking new investment markets beyond the oil sector. Turkmenistan offered its Gulf partners three key areas of cooperation:

Food security — supplies of high-quality Turkmen agricultural produce and food products.

Industrial partnership — Turkmen textiles and modern construction materials already capable of competing in Middle Eastern markets.

Energy and petrochemicals — Kuwait, as a global player in this field, sees Turkmenistan as a partner in developing high-tech production rather than merely a raw materials supplier.

The main outcome of the meeting was a proposal to establish a permanent platform for direct interaction between companies from both countries, minimising logistical and legal barriers. As Merghen Gurdov noted, Turkmen products are distinguished not only by quality but also by unique environmental characteristics, which are highly valued in the Gulf states.
