Ashgabat and Islamabad "Reset" Parliamentary Dialogue
A meeting between the Pakistan-Turkmenistan Interparliamentary Friendship Group and Turkmen Ambassador Atajan Movlamov took place in Islamabad. The meeting, chaired by Sanjay Perwani, Member of the National Assembly of Pakistan, turned into a presentation of our country's capabilities.
Ambassador Atajan Movlamov presented Pakistani parliamentarians with a detailed overview of Turkmenistan's government and foreign policy, based on the principles of permanent neutrality. However, special emphasis was placed on what makes Turkmenistan unique on the global map. This included the economy and logistics: issues of transport connectivity and the expansion of transregional trade corridors were discussed. Tourism potential was also discussed: the Pakistani partners were told about the country's natural landscapes and, of course, the pride of the nation—the Akhal-Teke horses.
Sanjay Perwani, head of the Pakistan Friendship Group, noted that it is institutions such as friendship groups that serve as a living bridge between the two countries' legislative bodies. The parties agreed to move beyond mere paperwork and move toward regular exchanges of delegations and strengthening people-to-people contacts.
For Turkmenistan, Pakistan remains a key partner in its southern development, and such intensified parliamentary ties are an important step toward implementing major regional projects.
