The German company Euroatlas has developed and unveiled Greyshark, a new underwater device designed for round-the-clock protection of critical infrastructure that carries the majority of global internet traffic.

The growing threats to underwater communications (with networks over 1.3 million km long) have necessitated the creation of autonomous security systems. Greyshark is a silent robot shaped like a shark. It can remain at sea for up to 16 weeks without human intervention, covering areas inaccessible to regular patrol vessels. Its non-metallic body and electric engine make it almost invisible to sonar.

The robot is equipped with a modern sensor suite, including sonars, lidars, and high-resolution cameras. Its main advantage is an AI module trained to detect anomalies, deformations, signs of tampering, and even underwater mines. The device only switches to active mode when a threat is detected.

Greyshark is intended to become a key tool in securing the digital economy. The devices can operate synchronously, exchanging coordinates through an encrypted channel, and their functions are not limited to security—they are also used for route mapping and pipeline condition assessment.
