Amazon.com Inc. has announced plans to invest $50 billion in modernizing and expanding the computing capacity and artificial intelligence infrastructure used by U.S. government customers of Amazon Web Services (AWS).

According to the company, the active phase of the project is set to begin in 2026. The initiative includes the construction of new data centers, which will boost AWS’s total capacity by 1.3 GW and introduce advanced computing and networking technologies.

Federal agencies will gain broader access to AWS AI tools, Anthropic’s Claude models, and Nvidia’s AI infrastructure. These resources will enable government institutions to develop their own AI solutions, handle large data volumes more efficiently, and improve overall operational performance.

At present, more than 11,000 government organizations nationwide rely on AWS cloud services.
