Turkmenistan Participated in a Regional Seminar on Water Challenges in Central Asia

On November 13, a regional seminar titled “Water Challenges in Central Asia” was held in Tashkent. The event was organized within the framework of the Blue Peace Central Asia (BPCA) initiative with the support of the International Water Management Institute (IWMI) and the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC). Jumamyrat Ovezmyradov, Chief Specialist of the Ministry of Education of Turkmenistan, took part in the seminar.
The main goal of the seminar was to identify the key issues of the regional water agenda for the medium and long term. Participants focused on discussing priority areas for climate change adaptation and opportunities to finance innovative solutions.
As a result of the discussions, key areas of joint action for 2025–2026 were identified:
• Water diplomacy: Strengthening dialogue and coordinated actions among Central Asian countries.
• Transboundary management: Joint management of small transboundary rivers.
• Capacity building: Enhancing the qualifications of specialists in water resources and climate-related initiatives.
The seminar became an important step toward promoting coordinated actions among Central Asian states. The identified key areas will contribute to the sustainable use of the region’s water resources and improve its resilience to the negative impacts of climate change.
