Google has announced a major update to its Photos app, making artificial intelligence (AI) features available to a wider audience. The key additions include support for conversational editing for iPhone users and the integration of the powerful AI model Nano Banana. These improvements aim to transform how users edit and search their photos through text and voice prompts.

Previously, the “Help Me Edit” feature—which enables users to describe desired changes using voice or text—was available only on Pixel and Android devices. Now it has been introduced for iOS users in the United States.

Key AI features that have become available:

• Conversational editing: Users can simply describe the changes they want, and Google Photos brings those ideas to life (e.g., “Make the sky bluer” or “Move the object to the right”).

• Nano Banana model: The integration of this AI model gives users new creative tools, allowing photos to be transformed into paintings, mosaics, or illustrations.

• “Ask” button: A new button for Android and iOS opens a chatbot-style interface for editing and receiving answers about the contents of images.

• Ready-made templates (Android): These templates allow quick use of popular AI prompts, such as creating a “high-fashion photoshoot.”

In addition to new editing features, Google has expanded the availability of the “Ask Photos” tool, which simplifies searching through the photo gallery. It will now be launched in more than 100 additional regions and support 17 new languages.

The update also includes previously introduced generative AI features such as Reimagine (which transforms objects and backgrounds using text prompts) and Auto Frame (automatic framing and filling empty spaces).
