Turkmenistan and Russia have announced the need to finalize work on an intergovernmental agreement to establish a Turkmen-Russian University in Ashgabat. This was announced by Turkmen Foreign Minister Rashid Meredov following talks with his Russian counterpart Sergei Lavrov.

"We emphasized the need to finalize intergovernmental documents that will enable us to establish a Turkmen-Russian University in Ashgabat," TASS quoted him as saying in its publication.

The head of the Turkmen Foreign Ministry also emphasized the importance of preparing relevant documents for the construction of a new building for the Alexander Pushkin State Russian Drama Theater in Ashgabat and an additional building for a joint comprehensive school.

The diplomats noted the continuation of the positive practice of bilateral relations in the fields of science, education and culture. Rashid Meredov described the talks as "very, very constructive."

The agreements reached open up new prospects for the development of bilateral relations aimed at strengthening cultural and humanitarian cooperation between the two countries.
