The International Scientific and Technological Park of the Academy of Sciences of Turkmenistan recently hosted a conference focused on the digital economy and innovation.

During the event, researchers and experts in information security and ICT presented their latest work. A presentation by Ahmet Esenov, a specialist at the Information Security and Telecommunications Technology Laboratory, on Li-Fi (Light Fidelity) technology drew particular attention.

Li-Fi is a wireless data transmission method that uses light instead of radio waves like Wi-Fi. An LED bulb with a special chip converts data into binary code and transmits it to a receiving device equipped with photocells. The high modulation speed makes the process invisible to the human eye. The main advantage of this technology is its incredibly high data transfer rate, which far exceeds traditional methods.

Experts believe that implementing Li-Fi in Turkmenistan could boost the efficiency of the country's digital infrastructure and create new opportunities in education, medicine, transport, and smart cities.

The conference also covered a range of other topics, including cybersecurity, electronic document management, integrating digital technologies with alternative energy sources, and using geographic information systems (GIS). Nikolai Nikolaev, a senior GIS department employee, presented QField, a mobile tool used for natural resource management and urban planning.

Participants agreed that the development of such projects aligns with Turkmenistan's national strategy for digital transformation and strengthening its innovative economy.
