Traditional karate is one of the most popular sports in Turkmenistan. Its national federation was officially registered in the country in 1994, and Hangeldi Hodjaev was appointed its chairman. Honored Coach of the country Hangeldi Hodjaev is the holder of the 5th dan in traditional karate. Under his chairmanship, the federation managed to win a total of 73 medals, including 7 gold, 19 silver and 47 bronze. During his sports career, he took part in many international tournaments. He is also the author of over 30 scientific articles and about 10 books on etymology, physiology, biomechanics and traditional karate technology. He also cultivated a love for this sport in his son Diyar, who had been exercising karate since the age of five. His father has been and remains his permanent coach and mentor. Hard training sessions brought Diyar his first well-deserved success – in 2006, at the competitions held in the United States of America, he confidently defeated his competitor and won the gold medal. In 2008 and 2010 in India, Diyar Hodjaev participated at the Asian Championship in Martial Arts and, having won over his opponents, became the two-time champion of Asia. He confidently won and set a new world record at the Fudokan Karate World Championship in Belgrad, Serbia, in 2015. In the same year in Tolyatti, he defeated his Russian competitor at the 7th second in one of his fights during the Open Cup of Russia in this martial art: another world record in the category “Fastest Victory” in fudokan-karate competitions. He won 3 medals in that tournament: 2 gold and 1 silver. His most important goal in his sports career is to continue to participate in international tournaments and win medals.
