Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan: from agreements to cooperation practice
According to the National Information Agency of Uzbekistan, representatives of the business community of the Lebap province, led by its governor, recently visited the Bukhara region. Carpet weaving, silkworm breeding, innovative agrarian management, historical and cultural heritage, tourism opportunities, construction materials industry are becoming the main points of rapprochement between the two border regions. During the trip, the guests from Lebap province get learned about the technology of intensive gardening, ensuring early commercial fruiting. In particular, the delegation visited an intensive garden belonging to “Siyovush Comron Food” Company with an area of 40 hectares. The construction industry is another area of mutual interest. Representatives of business circles of the eastern region of Turkmenistan interested in the production process of drywall, sat up at one of the enterprises in Bukhara. And, this is not accidental. Turkmenistan plans to arrange the production of gypsum, dry construction mixtures and drywall on the basis of enterprise "Magdanly Gurlushyk Materiallary", located in Lebap province. Uzbek silkworm breeders accompanied the Turkmen delegation through the shops of the “Bukhoro Brilliant Silk” Uzbek-Chinese Joint Venture, being one of the major silkworm facilities in the country. They told about the processes of spinning thread, manufacturing yarn and silk fabric and applying print. During the visit to the center of silk carpet weaving, the parties had voiced the idea of launching supplies of Bukhara carpets to Turkmenistan, and of handicraft products from Turkmenistan to Bukhara on contract basis. Along with a rich business program, Bukhara prepared tour of historical monuments for the delegation from a friendly country. It included visits to Khauz complex, Bakhouddin Naqshband complex, Ark fortress, Poi-Kalyan complex, consisting of the Minorai Kalyan tower, Masjid Kalyan mosque and Miri Arab madrassah. The summit talks between President Gurbanguly Berdymuhamedov and the President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev, hosted by Ashgabat in March 2017 and culminated by the signing of the Strategic Partnership Treaty, have really opened a new chapter in the history of bilateral relations. At that time, Agreement on cooperation in trade, economic and humanitarian spheres between the Lebap province of Turkmenistan and Bukhara region of Uzbekistan was signed, laying the grounds for establishing interregional fruitful contacts. The recent visit of the Turkmen delegation to Bukhara is clear evidence of practical implementation of the agreements reached at the top level.
