Shamuhammet Kurbanov - Asian champion in kurash
9 medals were brought by the national team of Turkmenistan from the Asian Youth Championship on kurash, held August 9-12 in the Iranian city of Bodzhund. Shamuhammet Kurbanov, who is now going through military service, became the gold medal winner in the team. He performed in the weight category of 60 kg. Another military conscript Atabeg Begmuradov in the same weight category was awarded 2nd place and silver medal. The bronze medalists are Merdan Hamraev (73 kg), Eziz Amanov (81 kg), Myrat Karaev (81 kg), Ulugbek Kurbanov (90 kg), Sylap Rozyveliev (90 kg), Arzuv Khaliyev (100 kg) and Mehmetkerim Nazarov (+ 100 kg). In the team event, the national team of Turkmenistan won the 3rd place of the Asian championship in kurash among the 10 states. This sport is among the disciplines included in the program of the Games "Ashgabat 2017". Participants included contestants from South Korea, Taiwan, Vietnam, India, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Afghanistan, Iraq, Lebanon and Iran.
