IWF Congress ratified new bodyweight categories

The Congress of the International Weightlifting Federation (IWF), held in the capital of Uzbekistan on July 6, ratified ten new bodyweight categories for women and ten new categories for men. Earlier, the IWF Executive Board Session, held on July 4-5, approved them. The first qualifying race will be the World Weightlifting Championship among men and women to be held in Ashgabat on November 1-10, and the ratified body weight categories will be as follows: Men (Senior/Junior) – 55kg, 61kg, 67kg, 73kg, 81kg, 89kg, 96kg, 102kg, 109kg, +109kg. Women (Senior/Junior) – 45kg, 49kg, 55kg, 59kg, 64kg, 71kg, 76kg, 81kg, 87kg, +87kg. Men (Youth) – 49kg, 55kg, 61kg, 67kg, 73kg, 81kg, 89kg, 96kg, 102kg, +102kg. Women (Youth) – 40kg, 45kg, 49kg, 55kg, 59kg, 64kg, 71kg, 76kg, 81kg, +81kg. Seven of each of these categories were also approved for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games. Men (Senior/Junior) – 61kg, 67kg, 73kg, 81kg, 96kg, 109kg, +109kg. Women (Senior/Junior) – 49kg, 55kg, 59kg, 64kg, 76kg, 87kg, +87kg. In the framework of the Congress, presentations on forthcoming weightlifting competitions, including the 2018 IWF World Championships Ashgabat this November, the 2019 IWF World Championships in Pattaya and others, were also prepared for the delegates.Ayna BERDIYEVA
