For the first time in the history of Turkmen medicine, local doctors have successfully performed neurosurgery on a newborn diagnosed with obstructive hydrocephalus. This groundbreaking procedure was made possible thanks to government support and the participation of the charitable foundation named after Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov.

The patient was a one-month-old infant from Balkan Province. Following comprehensive diagnostics and interdisciplinary consultations, specialists determined that surgical intervention was necessary. The operation was conducted at a domestic medical facility and concluded successfully. The child is currently in stable condition, actively responding to his surroundings, and is on the path to recovery.

This event marks a significant milestone in the advancement of high-tech medicine in Turkmenistan. The country continues to implement large-scale state initiatives aimed at modernizing healthcare, including the Saglyk program and the Healthy Mother — Healthy Child — Healthy Future strategy. These programs actively support the development of medical infrastructure and professional training for healthcare personnel.

Financial and organizational support for the project was provided by the Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov Foundation, which funds the purchase of modern medical equipment and organizes treatment for serious illnesses. The foundation also plays an important role in promoting international cooperation in the medical field. Notably, partnerships have been established with leading clinics in Germany, enabling Turkmen specialists to gain experience in cardiac surgery, orthopedics, and complex disease diagnostics.

The newborn’s parents expressed deep gratitude to the medical staff and the state for the assistance provided. This case stands as a testament to the steady development of the national healthcare system and the expanding capacity to deliver highly qualified medical care in Turkmenistan.
