On Saturday, June 14, head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Rashid Meredov held a meeting with Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation to Turkmenistan Ivan Volynkin. The diplomats discussed key issues of further development of bilateral strategic partnership, as well as preparations for the upcoming visit of head of the Russian Foreign Ministry Sergey Lavrov to Turkmenistan.

During the conversation, the parties noted that the recent telephone conversation between the heads of the Foreign Ministries of the two states became a productive opportunity to exchange views on a number of important aspects of Turkmen-Russian cooperation, according to a press release from the diplomatic agency.

Particular attention was paid to the importance of bilateral cooperation in the humanitarian sphere. A clear example of this was the prompt assistance of the Turkmen side to the Russian aircraft of S7 Airlines. The plane was forced to change its route on June 13, 2025 due to events in the Middle East region and landed at the Ashgabat International Airport.

The Russian diplomat expressed deep gratitude to the leadership of Turkmenistan for the support provided. On the same day, Ambassador Ivan Volynkin sent official written messages to President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov and National Leader of the Turkmen people, Chairman of the Khalk Maslakhaty Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, in which gratitude was expressed on behalf of the Russian side "for the assistance provided in landing the Russian airliner, which was flying on the Novosibirsk-Dubai route."

For all 170 passengers, including 22 children and 10 crew members, the Turkmen side created all the necessary conditions, including hot meals, drinks, access to medications and a full range of services.
