China is witnessing a significant increase in the number of foreign tourists following the implementation of visa-free policies aimed at facilitating cross-border travel and promoting cultural exchange. These measures have simplified entry procedures for citizens of several countries, making travel to China more accessible.

According to official data, the number of international travelers to China rose noticeably in the first half of 2025. Airports in major cities such as Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, and Chengdu have reported a steady increase in international passenger traffic. Many tourists have emphasized that the simplified visa regime was a key factor in their decision to visit.

The visa-free policy is attracting a diverse range of visitors—from tourists and businesspeople to students. Guests are eager to explore the country’s cultural landmarks, modern infrastructure, and rapidly advancing technologies. Tourist destinations such as the Forbidden City in Beijing, the Bund in Shanghai, and the scenic areas of Zhangjiajie and Guilin have become particularly popular.

The tourism industry is quickly adapting to the growing influx of international visitors. Hotels, restaurants, and travel agencies are expanding their services in foreign languages and incorporating international payment systems, including Visa, Mastercard, and mobile apps. In major cities, signage and information centers for travelers unfamiliar with the Chinese language are also being improved.

Interest in China is also growing on online platforms and social media. There has been a noticeable rise in searches for topics like “things to do in China” and “China travel tips,” while travel vlogs and photo diaries are becoming increasingly popular. For example, on TikTok, videos with hashtags like “travel China” and “learning Chinese” have garnered billions of views, reflecting rising global curiosity about the country.

Moreover, visa-free travel is fostering deeper interpersonal connections. Foreign visitors not only tour attractions but also actively participate in cultural activities such as tea ceremonies, calligraphy workshops, and Chinese cooking classes. Some even form friendships through social media and in-person interactions.

Experts note that the successful implementation of the visa-free policy could lead to its expansion in the future, further strengthening mutual understanding and enhancing cultural dialogue between China and other countries.
