Talks between chairmen of Turkmenistan's Mejlis and NPC Standing Committee held in Beijing
On Thursday, in Beijing, Chairwoman of the Mejlis of Turkmenistan Dunyagozel Gulmanova held talks with Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC Standing Committee) Zhao Leji.
Zhao Leji recalled that in January 2023, Chinese President Xi Jinping and Turkmen President Serdar Berdimuhamedov jointly announced the elevation of bilateral relations to a comprehensive strategic partnership, Xinhua reports.
In October of the same year, Zhao Leji added, President Xi Jinping held friendly exchanges with Chairman of the Khalk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, who arrived in China to attend the 3rd Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation. The leaders of the two countries outlined a new plan for the development of interstate cooperation in various fields.
The Chairman of the NPC Standing Committee noted that China is willing to work with Turkmenistan to accelerate the alignment of the Belt and Road Initiative with the Revitalizing the Great Silk Road strategy, explore new measures to deepen cooperation in areas such as connectivity and agriculture, and expand cooperation in areas such as culture, tourism and education.
Zhao Leji stressed that the legislative bodies of China and Turkmenistan have always maintained friendly exchanges. According to him, the NPC is willing to work with the Mejlis of Turkmenistan to strengthen friendly exchanges between legislative bodies at different levels, deepen exchanges of experience in lawmaking, supervision and public administration, and create a favorable legal environment for practical cooperation between the two countries.
Dunyagozel Gulmanova, for her part, stated that under the strategic leadership of the leaders of the two states, the Turkmen-Chinese relations of comprehensive strategic partnership have achieved rapid development in various fields, including politics, economics, diplomacy and cultural and humanitarian exchanges.
The Mejlis of Turkmenistan expects to deepen friendly contacts with the NPC, strengthen exchanges between relevant committees, as well as deputies and representatives from youth and women, Gulmanova added.
