On May 13, Foreign Minister of Turkmenistan Rashid Meredov met with the United Nations Resident Coordinators in Central Asia. The meeting was attended by high-ranking representatives of the UN development system in Turkmenistan - Dmitry Shlapachenko, in Kazakhstan - Stephen O'Malley, in Kyrgyzstan - Christine Antje Grawe and in Uzbekistan - Sabine Machl.

During the interested exchange of views, it was emphasized that in recent years, Central Asia has become a platform for the implementation and scaling of many UN initiatives in the field of combating climate change, water and food security, gender equality, digitalization of public services, education and healthcare.

The work to establish the Regional Center for Climate Change Technologies in Central Asia, the Central Asian Youth Dialogue, established in 2023 in the city of Arkadag, as well as the first joint training for young diplomats of Central Asia, which is currently taking place in Ashgabat, are called examples of practical regional integration.

At the present stage, strategic cooperation between Turkmenistan and the UN and its agencies is acquiring new dynamics and content. The country takes an active part in discussing priority issues on the regional and global agenda and developing their solutions, striving to realize its peacekeeping and creative potential for the common good.

The participants of the meeting focused special attention on the activities of the UN Regional Center for Preventive Diplomacy for Central Asia in Ashgabat, which, based on the methods of preventive diplomacy, makes a significant contribution to strengthening peace and stability in the region, consolidating joint efforts on the peacebuilding agenda, the press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan reports.
