Turkmen diplomat delivers lecture on neutrality at American college

A lecture by Shohrat Pirmukhammedov, First Secretary and Consul of the Embassy of Turkmenistan in Washington, was held at Northwest College in Powell, Wyoming, USA. The diplomat addressed students, staff, faculty, and local community representatives, talking about Turkmenistan’s permanent neutrality status recognized by the United Nations, as well as Turkmen-American relations.
The Turkmen diplomat’s visit to the American college, located thousands of kilometers from Ashgabat, is due to the fact that 11 students from Turkmenistan are studying at Northwest College. According to Shohrat Pirmukhammedov, he was pleasantly surprised by such a number of Turkmen students at one educational institution in the USA, and he believes that this is one of the highest figures in the country.

The diplomat’s meeting with the students took place after they had taken part in preparing traditional Turkmen dishes and organizing an exhibition of classical household items from their homeland. These events were complemented by Shohrat Pirmukhammedov’s speech dedicated to the history of Turkmenistan’s neutrality, which was declared after the country gained independence in 1991. He also touched upon various aspects of Turkmen-American relations, emphasizing their prospects.
In his speech, the Turkmen diplomat mentioned Turkmenistan’s role in holding international conferences on peace and neutrality, including the recent conference on the 30th anniversary of neutrality. He emphasized the relevance of these principles in the modern world, noting: “I think that now more than ever we need peace and trust.”
