Effective April 13, 2025, freight trains have begun operating on a fixed schedule between the city of Chengdu in China and Central Asia.

This route, connecting Chengdu with Tashkent, the capital of Uzbekistan, represents a significant advancement in international rail transport.

The inaugural train, comprising 47 wagons, was loaded with household appliances and other goods, and its departure marked the commencement of regular services along this route. The train will cross the border via the Khorgos checkpoint and is expected to reach its destination in approximately 10 days, covering a distance of 4,800 kilometers. According to data from the Chengdu branch of China Railway Corporation, regular services on this route will be operated on Sundays, which will significantly enhance the logistics and stability of freight transportation between the southwestern regions of China and Central Asia. The complementary demand for goods in Chengdu and Central Asia necessitates such freight train services. Future plans include the launch of specialized trains for cold chain logistics and cross-border e-commerce.

In the first quarter of 2025, a total of 3,582 freight train services were operated between China and Central Asia, representing a 25.5% increase compared to the same period last year.
