On September 2016, Turkmenistan was one of the first that started nationalization process of the SDGs, defining its development agenda until 2030. The Government of Turkmenistan formally adopted a list of 17 SDGs, 148 targets and 187 indicators to be implemented over the next 15 years. This approved list of SDGs provides a framework for cooperation between development partners and Turkmenistan over the next 15 years. The approval marked the completion of the first stage of the three-stage SDG implementation process adopted in Turkmenistan.
The Addis Ababa Action Program of 2015 and the subsequent ECOSOC Forum on Financing for the Sustainable Development Goals, held in New York in April 2018, confirmed that a new approach to financing development that maximizes both domestic and international finances from public and private sources to support the implementation of the SDGs is needed.
