120 days underwater: German resident sets new world record
On January 25th, German engineer Rüdiger Koch lived for 120 days in a special capsule off the coast of Panama, thus becoming the new record holder for the longest stay underwater without surfacing. This was reported by the TV channel France 24.
The 30-square-meter capsule in which the man lived was located at a depth of 11 meters and was equipped with all modern conveniences, including a bed, toilet, television, and computer. Internet access and an exercise machine were also provided. However, there was no shower.
Electricity for the capsule was generated using solar panels, but there was also a backup generator. According to the agency, Koch's underwater capsule was connected to a surface facility through which food was delivered to him. This facility was used by visitors, including a doctor.
Koch broke the record of American Joseph Dituri, who spent 100 days underwater. The new record was immediately recorded by representatives of the Guinness Book of World Records.
