A presentation of the book by the President of Turkmenistan "Magtymguly – the Sage of the World" took place in Ukraine
On January 21st, a presentation of the book "Magtymguly – the Sage of the World" by the President of Turkmenistan, Serdar Berdimuhamedov, was held at the Embassy of Turkmenistan in Ukraine. The event was attended by representatives of Kyiv libraries, Ukrainian universities, media, as well as Turkmen students. Speeches were delivered by the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Turkmenistan to Ukraine, Toyly Atayev, the Director General of the National Library of Ukraine for Children, Alla Gordienko, the Acting Director of the Magtymguly Library in Kyiv, Yulia Lopata, and the Director of the Ukrainian publishing house "AVIAZ," Viktor Zelensky.
Ambassador Toyly Atayev presented the new book, noting that in honor of the 300th anniversary of the birth of the outstanding poet and thinker of the East, Magtymguly Fragi, a series of events was organized last year and continues in 2025. He emphasized the significance of the new book in studying the legacy of the great poet, as well as its contribution to popularizing the humanist ideas of the thinker. The book " Magtymguly – the Sage of the World" reveals the role and significance of the poet in the history of the Turkmen people and world literature. It presents scientific research on the life and work of Fragi, examines his philosophical precepts and their relevance in strengthening peace. The author focuses on the development of Magtymguly studies, the role of the " Magtymguly school" in the formation of Turkmen literature, as well as the influence of the poet's ideas on Turkmenistan's foreign policy.
A separate section of the book is dedicated to the humanistic ideas of Magtymguly, which underlie the UN General Assembly Resolution on declaring 2025 the "International Year of Peace and Trust". The speakers representing the libraries and the publisher emphasized the importance of the book as an educational tool, noting its contribution to strengthening cultural ties. They expressed hope for a prompt translation of the book into Ukrainian. As part of the event, an exhibition was organized, showcasing collections of Magtymguly’s poetry in Turkmen, Ukrainian, and other languages, as well as research about the poet. The book "Jewel of the Mind" by the National Leader of the Turkmen people, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, aroused particular interest.
The exhibition of decorative and applied arts included handmade Turkmen carpets, national musical instruments (dutar, gyjak, gopuz), jewelry, and paintings depicting Magtymguly and Bayram Khan. The event concluded with musical performances featuring dutar melodies, and guests were offered dishes of Turkmen national cuisine.
