The flame of the 9th Asian Winter Games has been lit in Harbin, located in Heilongjiang Province in northeastern China.

The ceremony took place in a picturesque area on the bank of the Songhua River, 18 days before the opening of the Games.

Nine torchbearers participated in the ceremony, igniting the flame in front of a well-known local landmark — the Sun Stone.

The Harbin Winter Asian Games will be held from February 7th to 14th, 2025, marking the second time the city has hosted such competitions, the first being in 1996. A record number of Asian countries and regions — 34 — are expected to participate in the Games, with 1,275 athletes. Competitions in ice hockey and curling will begin earlier, on February 3rd and 4th, respectively.
