TikTok resumes operations in the United States
The social network TikTok has resumed its operations in the United States following a temporary blockage caused by legislative measures aimed at prohibiting the application.
On Sunday, January 19, 2025, the company announced the restoration of service for its 170 million users in the country. This was made possible by a promise from US President-elect Donald Trump, who stated that he would sign an executive order allowing a 90-day delay of the ban.
In its statement, the service, owned by the Beijing-based company ByteDance, thanked Trump for providing clarity and assurance, noting that this decision would avoid penalties for service providers offering access to the platform.
Previously, TikTok was blocked after the US Supreme Court upheld a law requiring the Chinese company ByteDance to sell its US assets or exit the market. In response, Trump proposed making the United States a partner in the deal, stating that this would keep TikTok in safe hands and ensure its continued development.
