Xi Jinping's phone conversation with Donald Trump
Chinese President Xi Jinping held a phone conversation with US President-elect Donald Trump, Xinhua reports. The agency did not specify what the heads of state discussed. Later, the US President-elect confirmed on the Truth Social social network that he had got in touch over the telephone with the Chinese leader.
"President Xi and I will do everything we can to make the world a more peaceful and secure place!" he wrote. According to Trump, they discussed trade issues and the short-video app TikTok, which could be blocked in the US in the coming days.
The initiator of the TikTok ban was the current US President Joe Biden. In April 2024, he signed the law requiring China's ByteDance to cease TikTok operations in the US by January 19, 2025.
