President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov extended his condolences to Acting President of the Republic of Korea Choi Sang-mok in connection with the tragic crash of a Jeju Air passenger plane.

On behalf of the people and the Government of Turkmenistan, as well as personally, the President expressed his deepest sympathy and support to the families and friends of the victims during this difficult time, wishing a swift recovery to the injured.

It is worth recalling that the Jeju Air passenger plane veered off the runway during landing in the South Korean city of Muan, collided with a barrier, and subsequently exploded. The tragedy claimed the lives of 179 people.

Preliminary reports indicate that the cause of the crash was a landing gear malfunction, which failed to deploy during the landing attempt.
