Afghanistan to set up three gas distribution points along its TAPI segment
The realization of TAPI gas main project in Afghanistan will create three operation distribution centers in Herat, Kandahar and Helmand provinces, stated Thursday the country’s Ministry of Mines and Petroleum. “The centers will distribute gas systematically. The locations for the centers have been selected,” said Abdulqadeer Mutfi, ministry’s spokesman in interview with TOLOnews. According to senior advisor of President of Afghanistan on financial and banking affairs, Ajmal Ahmadi, the pipeline will be commissioned in 2019. Moreover, it is planned to generate at least 100 megawatts of electricity from Turkmen gas fed via TAPI. Ahmadi also mentioned the shares of supplies intended for Afghanistan. “Afghanistan will take 500 million cubic meters of gas during the first 10 years, one billion during the next 10 and 1.5 billion during the subsequent years”, he said. The government envisages laying three spur-lines in Kandahar, Herat and Lashkargah. At present, the business plan for the utilization of this natural gas is being prepared. TAPI supply route in Afghanistan will pass through the provinces of Herat, Farah, Helmand and Kandahar. The launch ceremony of Afghanistan’s TAPI segment will take place in February 2018 with expected participation of presidents of four project country-members.
