The Dunedin Airport in New Zealand has banned passengers and farewellers from hugging for longer than three minutes, CNN reports.

A special sign has been posted inside the building.

"For a more tender farewell, please use the parking area", the announcements at the airport state.

According to the airport administration, the restriction is based on a scientific research.

Airport CEO Daniel De Bono explained the new rule by stating that just a 20-second hug is enough to release the "love hormone".
