A delegation from the Pushkin State Museum of Fine Arts, Moscow, visited Ashgabat to discuss the possibility of cooperation and organizing exhibitions dedicated to the culture of Turkmenistan, TASS reports.

"We are here to discuss future exhibitions and cooperation. Our experts in the history of the Ancient East have a world reputation, and I am confident that our interaction will benefit both us and Turkmenistan. We will do everything possible to make the great monuments of Turkmen culture known to the Russian audience and the whole world," Ilya Doronchenkov, Deputy Director of the Museum for Research said.

He noted that the Bactrian culture, which is one of the most ancient in Turkmenistan, has a significant world reputation. Research by Soviet archaeologist Viktor Sarianidi in the Merv Oasis discovered more than 200 settlements and revealed a previously unknown center of civilization - the Bactrian-Margiana archaeological culture.

"Turkmenistan is a culturally rich country with many traditions that can be presented to a wide audience. We are negotiating with various countries about exhibitions that could highlight the ancient history of civilizations. It is time for Turkmenistan to become part of this process," Doronchenkov added in an interview with a TASS correspondent.

He also took part in the international scientific meeting "Turkmenistan - the center of ancient civilizations", dedicated to the 95th anniversary of outstanding scientists and archaeologists Vadim Masson and Viktor Sarianidi, which was held in Anau, near Ashgabat.

"The heritage of the Turkmen people, which is studied and preserved by researchers, is a worthy topic for presentation in museums around the world, including in Russia. We have successful experience in demonstrating cultural monuments, such as the exhibition of the Urartu culture held in our museum two years ago," Doronchenkov noted.
