President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev proposed establishing a "CIS Plus" format, as reported by the TASS news agency.

He made this statement during the recent meeting of the Council of Heads of State of the Commonwealth of Independent States in Moscow. The decision is aimed at expanding the regional ties of the Commonwealth.

“The authority of the CIS on the global stage is growing. Last year the CIS observer and partner statuses were established, which demonstrated the openness and maturity of our organization. In continuation of this institutional work, I propose to consider the establishment of the “CIS Plus” format”, said Tokayev, noting that the new platform will serve as a foundation for expanding regional ties within the Commonwealth.

Following the CIS summit, which took place at the Grand Kremlin Palace in Moscow, a package of documents was signed aimed at further development and strengthening of integration ties in the areas of trade and economy, cultural and humanitarian cooperation, as well as security.
