As part of her regional visit to Central Asia, Anjali Kaur, USAID’s Deputy Assistant Administrator (DAA) for the Bureau for Asia visited Turkmenistan to reinforce bilateral cooperation. DAA Kaur and Ambassador Rood engaged with key representatives from the Government of Turkmenistan, including the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Finance and Economy, Ministry of Environmental Protection, Turkmengas and Turkmenoil. This visit underscores USAID’s commitment to fostering sustainable development and efficient governance in Turkmenistan.

During her meetings, DAA Kaur discussed important initiatives related to economic diversification, environmental protection, and participatory governance. This includes important regional initiatives such as combating climate change and facilitating trade across borders in the region.

In COP 28 (Conference of Parties) Turkmenistan clearly demonstrated its commitment to combating climate change by joining the Global Methane Pledge. USAID is working with Turkmenistan to reduce methane emissions and promote decarbonization.

USAID also partners with Turkmenistan on digitalization of the Turkmen economy through the State Statistics Committee to support the digital submission of statistical reports. USAID supported a joint training for Turkmen customs officials in classifying goods using the International Harmonized Commodity Description and Coding system.
